About the Local Business Directories

The City of Tallahassee considers its local business community to be a vital part of the community and the local economy; therefore, promoting a business climate that enhances the economic viability of local business enterprises serves a vital public purpose.

The purpose of the City of Tallahassee Local Business Certification Program is to stimulate the local economy, within the confines of the Federal and State procurement laws and regulations and to further promote the utilization and participation of local businesses with respect to city purchases and contracts. By implementing this program, the City of Tallahassee can use its purchasing power to support local businesses and promote the creation and retention of local jobs.

How is the directory built?

Information contained in this directory is compiled from the certification applications received from the local businesses and our current database information.

What is a Local Business?

A local business is defined as a person, firm, corporation, or other business entity which is duly licensed and authorized to engage in the particular business at issue, and which has maintained a permanent place of business with full-time employees within Leon, Gadsden, Jefferson, or Wakulla County, Florida for a minimum of six (6) months prior to the date bids were received for the purchase or contract at issue.

What types of certification does the City offer local businesses?

  1. Local Business Enterprise ("LBE") Certification
LBE Certification is available only to businesses whose permanent place of business is a fixed office in Leon County, at which location the business conducts, on a regular basis, all of the services and activities performed in carrying out the business responsibilities.

  2. Extended Local Business Enterprise ("ELBE") Certification
ELBE Certification is available only to businesses whose permanent place of business is a fixed office in Gadsden, Jefferson or Wakulla Counties, at which location the business conducts, on a regular basis, all of the services and activities performed in carrying out the business responsibilities.
Note: The ELBE business that is a City Utility customer shall receive a 20% preference.
