Homeowner Rehabilitation Program
The rehabilitation and preservation of owner-occupied housing is a key priority for the City of Tallahassee. Committed to improving the quality of affordable housing and allocates a substantial portion of its housing budget each year to the Homeowner Rehabilitation Program.
What is the Homeowner rehabilitation Program?
The Housing and Community Redevelopment Division provides the Homeowner Rehabilitation Program (HRP) through three local non-profit organizations: Tallahassee Urban League, Home Rehabilitation and Development, Inc., and Frenchtown CDC. The goal of this program is to enhance and strengthen neighborhoods through the rehabilitation of owner-occupied housing.
Funding is provided through the City and by contract with the non-profit agencies. Application and eligibility requirements are handled by the non-profit organizations. The city staff and non-profit personnel perform inspections and work write-ups jointly.
The HRP will provide up to $40,000 in assistance to homeowners to make needed repairs to single family homes, and meet the city building codes and ordinances. The assistance is provided in the form of a zero-interest loan that requires no monthly payments. If the homeowner continues to occupy the home for a minimum of five years after the repairs are complete, then the loan amount is forgiven.
How to Apply
Applications are available at the Tallahassee Urban League, Home Rehabilitation and Development, and Frenchtown CDC. All applicants must complete a pre-application, provide a Social Security Card, and present proof of income to be certified eligible to receive assistance under the HRP.
