Homeowner Rehabilitation Program

Small house The rehabilitation and preservation of owner-occupied housing is a key priority for the City of Tallahassee. Committed to improving the quality of affordable housing and allocates a substantial portion of its housing budget each year to the Homeowner Rehabilitation Program.

What is the Homeowner Rehabilitation Program?
The Housing and Community Redevelopment Division provides the Homeowner Rehabilitation Program (HRP) through three local non-profit organizations: Tallahassee Urban League, Bethel CDC, and Home Rehabilitation and Development. The goal of this program is to enhance and strengthen neighborhoods through the rehabilitation of owner-occupied housing.

Funding is provided through the City and by contract with the non-profit agencies. The City handles application and eligibility requirements while both city staff and non-profit personnel perform inspections and work write-ups jointly.

The HRP will provide up to $40,000 in assistance to homeowners to make needed repairs to single family homes, and meet the city building codes and ordinances. The assistance is provided in the form of a zero-interest loan that requires no monthly payments. If the homeowner continues to occupy the home for a minimum of ten years after the repairs are complete, then the loan amount is forgiven.

HOW TO APPLY:
For more information or to initiate the application process, please call Robin Slade at 891-6528 or click here to obtain the application (PDF).

The program serves only very low- income and low-income homeowners (see HUD income guidelines), residing within the corporate limits of the City of Tallahassee. The house must be owner-occupied (that is, owned by the person or persons living in the house). Rehabilitation assistance is not available for mobile homes.
