Downtown Community Redevelopment Plan

June 2004 - This is a draft City of Tallahassee Downtown Community Redevelopment Plan:

The Development Plan is the heart of the redevelopment plan, providing the overall direction of redevelopment activities within the downtown area. The Development Plan section incorporates many of the comments and recommendations developed during the previous focus group meetings and public workshops.

Our original intent was to post the draft of the Downtown Community Redevelopment Plan on our website for public review. Unfortunately, the redevelopment plan is too large for our web site and would take a considerable amount of time to download over regular telephone Internet connections. As an alternative to coming to City Hall to review the entire draft plan prior to the March 16th public workshop, the Development Plan and the Program Management and Implementation sections of the redevelopment plan have been posted on the website for your review. To view the two sections, please click on the links at the bottom of the page.

As already discussed, the Development Plan section is the main part of the downtown redevelopment plan. The Development Plan identifies eight (8) redevelopment themes, nine (9) supporting objectives and fifty-one (51) action strategies that will direct the actions of the Community Redevelopment Agency in implementing the downtown redevelopment plan. The redevelopment themes addressed in the plan include pedestrian mobility, traffic circulation and parking; future land use and activities in the downtown core area; arts, culture and entertainment; historic preservation; the environment and recreation; and streetscapes, gateways, open spaces and trails. The Program Management and Implementation section provides an overview of the management actions that will be required to accomplish the redevelopment objectives and strategies outlined in the Development Plan. Included in this section are issues related to leadership; organizational roles and relationships; City Commission, Community Redevelopment Agency and staff; planning activities and general urban design strategies; finance and management; redevelopment plan implementation; and promotion and communication.
