Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill
The City of Tallahassee wants to keep you informed of the impacts of the Gulf Oil Spill from the Deepwater Horizon disaster.
Tallahassee isn't even on the Gulf Coast, so why should the City of Tallahassee and its residents be concerned?
Our Gulf Coast is just a short drive from our beautiful community, providing recreational fun (i.e. swimming, fishing, building sandcastles); as well as providing our region with jobs and food. If the oil reaches our neighboring counties' shores, it will impact not only their lives, but ours in many ways as well.
The City of Tallahassee is monitoring the situation closely as we own and operate the Sam Purdom Power Plant along the St. Marks River in Wakulla County.
We want to keep you informed, and the best way to do this is by providing you quick access to portals that may have answers to your questions.

- Official Response Website
- In July 2010, a new U.S. federal Web portal, RestoreTheGulf.gov, was launched dedicated to providing the American people with clear and accessible information and resources related to the BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill response and recovery.
The site offers information about the claims and appeals process - as well as other types of assistance available from federal, state, local and non-government sources - for individuals, businesses and communities who have been affected by the spill. It will also contain information about plans for the long-term economic and environmental restoration in the Gulf Coast region.
The web portal maintained by the Unified Area Command's Joint Information Center as a short term incident communication site (http://www.deepwaterhorizonresponse.com) will be phased out over the coming weeks as information there is moved to RestoreTheGulf.gov.
