Technology Integration Project (TIP)

The TIP Project is a multi-year, cross-departmental project, integrating all of the City of Tallahassee's major enterprise resource systems. This project will integrate the City of Tallahassee's key business systems, in conjunction with the ISS Enterprise Resource Strategy. By integrating our systems using common platforms and proven technologies, we will improve and enhance our customer service to the functional city departments and to the citizens of Tallahassee.

The project uses the concept of an "integration hub" which is intended to enable integration of systems with a minimum of effort. This will involve a combination of hardware and software that will interpret one communications protocol to another. Using interlinks, the hub system will be able to connect disparate systems, for example, allowing the outage management system to generate a work order in the work order system.

TIP Organizational Structure

The TIP Project is organized and directed by a steering committee and a management team. Subcommittees meet regularly.

The steering committee will provide Senior Management oversight of the TIP project. Responsibilities include approval of funding authorization to be presented to the City Commission. This team is the decision authority for city policy considerations and changes. The Steering Committee is responsible for the direction and scope of the TIP project and will provide decision-making authority as requested by the Management Team

The Management Team provides management level support and decision-making authority for the TIP Project. This team is responsible for business and operational process decisions. This team will identify and provide necessary resources to ensure project completion. Management members of this team are responsible for dissemination of project information to their respective departments and promoting the TIP project within their organizations. This team meets monthly to discuss project status, direction and to determine recommendations to the Steering Committee

The TIP sub-committee members are the project subject matter representatives from participating departments. Responsibilities include discussion of project objectives with the appropriate staff in their respective departments concerning requirements and implementation issues. Team members are also responsible for coordination with management to insure key players are identified and are available to participate in the completion of project tasks. These groups are working teams that meet weekly as a group.

Two example of these working groups are the Service Point ID (SPID) team, which is creating a relationship between the CIS (Customer Information System) and the GIS (Geographic Information System) and the Location ID team, which is establishing identification data for equipment that is in the field to support a maintenance/work management system for City Utilities.
