Hilaman Park Golf Course - Audubon Society Awards Sanctuary Certification
Hilaman Golf Course Goes Green
Audubon Society Awards Sanctuary Certification
The City of Tallahassee is proud to announce that Hilaman Golf Course was recently certified in the Environmental Planning component of the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program (ACSP).
The program provides an advisory service to help existing golf courses develop effective conservation and wildlife enhancement programs.
With this certification, Hilaman will be active in showcasing the natural habitat and natural resources within the golf course. Activities include placing bird nesting boxes around the facility,
using integrated pest control techniques, conserving water and making sure all wildlife are supplied with proper food and shelter to insure environmental friendliness throughout the golf course.
"Protecting and enhancing the environment is our main priority," said Geri Buchheit, supervisor of Golf Course Maintenance for Hilaman. "Providing a space both golfers and wildlife can enjoy is the first step in our efforts to create an environmentally sustainable golf course."
Hilaman's new certification exemplifies the City's continuous efforts to sustain and improve
the environmentally friendly standards Tallahassee is known for, including high water quality, the e+ brand and Go Green Tallahassee.
After the environmental plan is approved, properties in the program may apply for certification in Wildlife and Habitat Management, Chemical Use Reduction and Safety, Water Conservation, Water Quality Management, and Outreach and Education by demonstrating that they have met minimum requirements for each category.
