Recreational Coaches Workshop
The time has never been better to become a tennis instructor in Tallahassee. A Recreational Coaches Workshop (RCW) will be held at Forestmeadows, Saturday, October 25th, 9:00am - 3:30pm. An RCW covers such items as large group teaching, running effective team practices, and the process of the games-based approach to coaching. The program is interactive and allows the participants to experience the latest industry teaching techniques. These workshops are an excellent introduction for new coaches as well as showing the experienced tennis teacher the current method of tennis teaching.
RCW's are geared toward the current tennis player that is seeking the basics of teaching entry-level players. The curriculum is appropriate for parks & recreation instructors and high school and middle school coaches. The City of Tallahassee tennis division will be scouting the participants to hire several instructors for upcoming sessions. In addition to getting this specialized training, this can be used as a springboard to becoming a certified teaching professional. I have certified over fifteen teaching professionals in the last two years that were former RCW participants. The tennis division plans on initiating a tennis program at each of its community centers to expose as many players to tennis as possible. We are excited about a tennis curriculum at each of our centers.
Remember, you don't necessarily have to be a great player to teach tennis. If you love the game of tennis and you have a passion for teaching kids or adults, this may very well be the beginning of truly great opportunity of possibilities.
Applications are available online (PDF) and at Forestmeadows, or anyone interested can call 891-3920 for more information.

Junior High Performance Program Offered by City of Tallahassee
The City of Tallahassee's tennis division will be offering a new format for their High Performance program this fall. The sessions will be geared toward players with sectional USTA rankings and players that are 1 or 2 on their high school team.
The USPTA teaching team of Glen Howe, Steve LeRoy, Lenin Mongerie, and Hassan Marius will work with the program throughout the school year. Glen is the only Master professional and USTA High Performance coach in the area. The program is also endorsed by the USTA as an Area Training Center (ATC).
The program will encompass drilling, strength training, game play, focus training, and tournaments. In addition, Dartfish Technology will be used to video the strokes and play of the juniors. Additional tennis play enhancers such as charting, parent boosters, and tennis tournament trips will be offered to round out the program. For additional information and tryout, contact any of the above professionals or email Glen Howe.
