Apartment Complex Neighborhood Watch (ACNW)
| The Tallahassee Police Department Community Relations Unit encourages those who live in apartment complexes to Act Now (ACNW) and become part of a virtual network that will provide up to date statistics within your apartment complex, as well as safety awareness tips. We will also provide crime prevention tips to address potential crime issues depending on the time of year or holiday season. Our goal is to provide educational security measures that make you, your home, and your property safer while living in an apartment complex. We will provide you with the following information: |
| Recent Crime Alert |
Since May 1 there have been approximately 14 burglaries to apartment complex offices where force was used. Numerous electronic items and undisclosed amounts of cash were taken.

| Crime Prevention Tips |
Please lock up valuables, cash, rent checks and record all serial numbers to electronics that are located within the office of the apartment complex. Keep the office area well lit at night to deter criminal activity. If you are interested in a free security survey, please call 850-891-4251.

Suspicious Activity
- Anyone forcibly entering a car or home
- Someone running from a home or business under unusual circumstances
- Someone carrying a weapon
- Someone screaming
- Stranger offering a child candy or some other gift
- A loiterer who doesn't belong in the area
- A person walking around in the neighborhood with items
that could have been stolen - Persons looking into cars and windows of a residence
- Anyone ringing your doorbell or knocking on your door with
an unreasonable explanation - Persons loitering around a schoolyard
- Strange vehicles parked in your area for several days
- A clean car with damaged or dirty license plates
How to Report to the Police
- Identify yourself - name, address and telephone number
- Type of crime
- "In progress" or "has occurred"
- Where? Be as specific as possible
- Descriptions of suspect(s) - how many, whether armed, etc. Write this down!
- Description of vehicle - tag number, dents, etc. Write this down!
- Direction the suspect was traveling
- The longer you can stay on the line, the better
Terminology you should know when reporting a crime
Burglary - breaking and entering a house or other structure. This is not a person-to-person-type crime
Robbery - (Armed) the taking of valuables while a person is being threatened with a weapon.
Larceny - theft of property without force
Assault - an intentional, unlawful threat by word or act to do violence to a person
Battery - physical attack of a person without the use of a weapon
Aggravated Battery - involves the use of some type of weapon against another person: a gun, knife, club, etc.
