Solar Power Net Metering

Solar PV Panel on rooftop of houseIf you're generating your own power with rooftop solar photovoltaic panels, watch your electric meter "spin backwards" with Net Metering.

Solar PV Net Metering promotes customer investment in renewable energy generation. Net metering lets residential and commercial customers with small to moderate sized PV generation (up to 10 kilowatts*) return excess generated power back to the Your Own Utilities at the full retail value, including taxes. The meter turns backwards, lowering your monthly electric bill.

*Most home PV systems are sized around 2 or 3 kilowatts. In north Florida, installed costs of small PV systems have been running about $6 to $8 per peak watt, or about $18,000 to $24,000 for a 3-kilowatt system.

For details on Net Metering, download the Photovoltaic Parallel Connection Agreement (PDF) or call the City of Tallahassee Utilities, Energy Services department: dial 891-4YOU (4968) and then press 4, then 2.
